You blew into the room riding on a hurricane.
Among the crash of porcelain and glass
You made a little mess out of me.
And like a dream, the look upon your face
It shook me like a tidal wave.
I was breaking my back, I was feeling like trash,
But you knew what to say.
Oh my god, it’s a crying shame
What we lose when we’re playing the game.
You said tonight, we’re gonna bring the fire.
We’re gonna make sure they know our name.
And before I find that will to complain
I feel the lightning in my eyes.
So let’s ride, let’s show ‘em what we got,
Let’s blow all of their minds.
It’s getting weirder all the time.
Baby let your freak flag fly.
Maybe we don’t pay no mind.
Just try to make it out alive.
Let’s get weird tonight.
I found a little smile, you poured a little glass of pain.
We ran around with trouble to our backs,
It tasted like champagne.
And like a dream, the look upon your face
Was glowing in a silver flame.
You saw me shedding a tear, it was all that I feared,
And you knew what to say
Oh my god, it’s a crying shame
What we find when we’re sharing the pain.
Because tonight, we’re gonna bring the fire.
We’re gonna make sure they know our name.
With the taste of blood and a will to complain
We got the lightning in our eyes.
So let’s ride, let’s show ‘em what we got,
Let’s blow all of their minds.
Rip-roaring power pop with all the deadpan wit and guitar noise of early Weezer and legitimized by the songwriting chops of Tom Petty and Elvis Costello. North by North
Lost track of these guys for a couple years, then saw the Tiny Desk concert come up in my feed. I've had the album on loop on Spotify since Friday.
This song in particular has been stuck in my head all afternoon. quiksilv26
A fantastic album. I can see why they didn't continue under the name The Evens, as it's a different sound with the bass added. Coriky is the Evens + Joe Lally from Fugazi on bass. If you can imagine The Evens with a slightly more funky, aggressive sound like Fugazi... that's what you get! And there's no way that can ever go wrong. What a great debut album!! smiledozer
