Ran back from the woods you know
I was the only one.
Holding on to something that I could never own.
Looked right back at me babe,
I saw you in the dark.
Hold me close, just don’t tell me
I’ll never be the one.
Said I knew ya when I was young.
I told you all the terrible things that I done.
Oh but darlin’ was it not fun?
And we came so close, but you know it fell apart.
You told me something baby,
But then you broke my heart.
I don’t care what you do.
Say what you will when I say I’m through with you.
It’s a lie.
I will run baby run ‘til I meet you at the end of time.
And you see,
We can bathe in the blood of our enemies.
You know, I don’t care.
I will run baby run baby run to you.
I wanna tell you everything.
I wanna be the man that you said I could be.
Oh but darlin', what do we see.
That we came so close and you know, it's a lullaby.
You told me something, baby,
and then you said good night.
Rip-roaring power pop with all the deadpan wit and guitar noise of early Weezer and legitimized by the songwriting chops of Tom Petty and Elvis Costello. North by North
A fantastic album. I can see why they didn't continue under the name The Evens, as it's a different sound with the bass added. Coriky is the Evens + Joe Lally from Fugazi on bass. If you can imagine The Evens with a slightly more funky, aggressive sound like Fugazi... that's what you get! And there's no way that can ever go wrong. What a great debut album!! smiledozer
Lost track of these guys for a couple years, then saw the Tiny Desk concert come up in my feed. I've had the album on loop on Spotify since Friday.
This song in particular has been stuck in my head all afternoon. quiksilv26
